Our Preconference Sessions are geared to help you thrive in the ever-changing landscape of library media programming!

Tamara Cox

-- Are you a Dewey Die-hard or Genre-fication Convert or somewhere in between? Featured presenter Tamara Cox (aka the eliterate librarian) will help us decide how best to showcase and market our collections as she guides us in exploring organizational options. This session will be offered twice. Tamara is only able to be with us for the preconference so make sure to take advantage of this opportunity to hear her!

data-- In today's data-driven culture, would you like to show you make a difference and make your program the best it can be? DPI consultant Kathy Parker will share ways to collect and communicate data that demonstrates student achievement, while Lincoln County Director of Instructional Technology & Media Services Sandra Andrews will present on how to use data to improve and update your collection in light of Common Core needs.

-- Want to hear success stories that will help you give a fresh new feel to your program?  Join Jackie Pierson, Director of Library Media Services with Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools, as she leads two panels, one elementary and one secondary, in sharing their favorite best practices and resources.

LilyPad Arduino

If you’re looking to roll up your sleeves for a hands-on technology workshop, why not learn more about the Makerspace Movement and coding in a hands-on introduction to making simple interactive machines with Stuart Annand and John Draughon, the “brobrarians” at Enka High School in Buncombe County.

And for sessions centered on instructional strategies consider one of these:

-- A team from the "Teaching with Primary Resources" program at Mars Hill University will offer an engaging session that features powerful tools, effective strategies, and hands-on activities. This session will be offered FREE to the first 30 people that register for it and an additional preconference session!

Jennifer Northrup

-- DPI Regional Digital Learning Consultants Jennifer Northrup (aka candidlibrarian) and Donna Murray will take us on a global awareness adventure to explore resources and ideas that open the world to our students.

-- Need ideas for increasing collaboration with teachers, enhancing lessons with differentiation, and using  technology to support Common Core and Essential Standards?  Jewel Davis and fellow faculty members from App State will guide us through these topics.
